Yes! We formulate, manufacture, and package our products in certified GMP cosmetic manufacturing facilities in New Zealand.
ARE FREE CURLS PRODUCTS 100% NATURAL?
No, although we do use many natural and naturally-derived ingredients in our products. Our main focus is on avoiding harsh chemicals that damage curly hair. You can find all of our ingredients on our product labels and on our website. They’re listed in descending order of quantity — so the ingredients at the top of the list make up a higher percentage of the product than those at the bottom
DOES FREE CURLS TEST PRODUCTS ON ANIMALS?
No, all of our products are cruelty-free and vegan-friendly. We are totally against animal testing and cruelty of any kind.
ARE FREE CURLS PRODUCTS VEGAN?
Yes! We source most of our ingredients from plant-based materials to reduce negative effects on your hair and the environment. None of our ingredients come from animals and we don’t test on them either!
DO YOU USE PALM OIL?
No — we’re fully transparent about our ingredients and are proud to be palm oil free. You’ll also be pleased to know that it’s not hidden in any of our other ingredients!
WHAT IS YOUR PRODUCT SHELF LIFE?
Our products are safe to use for 36 months unopened and 12 months once opened.
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS COLOUR SAFE?
Yes! All Free Curls are colour safe and can be used on dyed hair.
I THINK I HAD AN ALLERGIC REACTION FROM A PRODUCT, WHAT DO I DO?
In the unlikely event of a reaction, stop using the product immediately and rinse the area with cool water. Consult your doctor as soon as possible to determine what caused the reaction.
IS FREE CURLS 'CGM' FRIENDLY?
Our products have no silicones, wax, mineral oils, sulphates; hence they are suitable for those who follow the curly girl method.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO TRANSFER THE PUMP FROM ONE BOTTLE TO ANOTHER?
Our pumps are packaged separately to encourage reuse. We recommend transferring the pump straight from its protective bag to the bottle to reduce contamination.
If you’ve got a refill bottle and want to use your old pump, it’s a good idea to pump water or rubbing alcohol through the tube to make sure it’s free from residue.
Don’t leave it sitting around in your shower, as this will expose it to air, water, and a whole host of germs from your bathroom
WHY SHOULD I REUSE THE BOTTLE?
When you recycle a plastic bottle only 10-20% of it actually gets recycled. Even then, that percentage is often downgraded into another form of single-use plastic. This downgrading process means that recycling only delays the inevitable trip to the landfill, where your plastic bottle will last for hundreds or thousands of years. Or else it winds up polluting our oceans or harming our wildlife.
When you reuse your Free Curls bottles, you reduce the demand for plastic and make a concentrated effort to keep at least a small portion of your waste from ending up in the landfill or our oceans. It might seem like a small result, but small results add up to big changes!
WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO RETURN MY BOTTLE?
While we would love to reuse your bottle for future customers, we understand that not everyone has the time or desire to post theirs back to us. If you choose to keep your bottle, we encourage you to reuse it for Free Curls or any other products you have. They’re great for cleaning products or you could even use them as vases to brighten up your home.
If you don’t want your bottle at all — or if it’s damaged — pop it in your recycling bin so it can begin its endless journey.
SHOULD I SEND BACK VERY DENTED OR DAMAGED BOTTLES?
It’s completely up to you! We make ourselves accountable for the waste we produce, so even if we can’t reuse your bottles we’ll make sure they get recycled.
Alternatively, you can recycle them yourself by adding them to your recycling bin.
Unlike plastic, aluminium can be recycled without any quality loss, which means it can be turned into other aluminium products an infinite number of times. Our bottles truly have an endless life!
